Honeycutt wins triple-jump title

Emporia State’s Josh Honeycutt won the triple jump to lead three Hornets to provisional qualifying marks at the UTA-Bobby Lane Invitational in Arlington, Texas on Saturday.
Honeycutt provisionally qualified in the triple jump with a mark of 48 feet, 7 inches and was the top finisher for the Hornets on the weekend.
ESU had two individual and one relay team finish as runners-up. Alex Pyle was second in the high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 8.75 inches and Connie Philips threw the javelin 135 feet, 10 inches to place second as well. Both Pyle and Philips also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships.
The men’s 400-meter relay team placed second in a time of 42.10 seconds for the other runner-up finish.
Emporia State will host its first home meet of the season, the State Farm/ESU Relays, this Saturday. Action begins at Witten Track in Welch Stadium at 10 a.m. for the field events and 11 a.m. for the prelims in the running events.
