3 Spartan wrestlers compete in Senior Classic

Emporia High senior wrestlers Sal Tovar, Justin Rose and Tavo Dikin competed at the Senior Classic at Landon Arena in Topeka on Friday, and Tovar and Rose scored victories to help the Blue team, made up of Class 6A and 5A schools, to a 56-24 victory over the Red team.
At 135 pounds, Tovar, this year’s Class 5A individual State champion at that weight, defeated Beloit’s Cade Hewitt by injury default after Hewitt hurt his ankle with 39 seconds left in the first period. At 125 pounds, Rose defeated Eureka’s Devin Frye by a 6-3 decision in the event’s final match.
Dikin, who finished second in the state at 140 pounds, lost to Cameron Jesseph of Chanute by a 3-1 decision.
The Red team was composed of wrestlers from 4A and 3-1A schools.
