Next week, the Granada Theatre will return to the purpose for which it was built. At 7 p.m. Thursday, the theater will show the first in a spring series of classic Hollywood films. The films will be shown on the first Thursday of each month through June.
Because of the terms of the deal with the films’ distributor, the theater cannot advertise the names of the films, but rest assured that Thursday’s film is a universally recognized classic drama from the 1940s. The May movie will be a popular comedy from the 1960s. The June film will be a romantic drama from the 1950s with a Kansas setting.
Tickets are $4 — another blast from the past — and the concession stand will be open, providing all the amenities of an old-time movie house.
Tickets are available at the theater and at the Sweet Granada and the Granada Coffee Co.
The Granada Theatre, 807 Commercial St., was built in 1929. It served as a movie theater for many years until it was closed and allowed to fall into disrepair. A grass roots community effort to save the old theater resulted in a multi-million-dollar restoration that was completed in 2008.
The restored theater has become a venue for concerts, lectures, social event and, now, the showing of classic films.

I bet the April movie is "Casablanca"!
No doubt May is "The Odd Couple", and finally June should be "Picnic".
These will be great shows!
