Rogler talks
Author and medical researcher Lloyd Henry Rogler will be the guest speaker for a Prairie Talk at 6:30 p.m. March 31 at Pioneer Bluffs, 695 Kansas Highway 177. Rogler will talk about his new book, “Barrio Professors: Tales of Naturalistic Research.” The book, Rogler’s ninth, “takes the reader from the slums of Puerto Rico to inner-city neighborhoods where prize-winning researcher Lloyd H. Rogler immersed himself in the daily lives of desperate and impoverished people who ultimately taught him critical lessons,” stated the news release. Rogler, born and raised in Puerto Rico, also will share stories about his roots in the Flint Hills of Kansas, especially his visit to a place homesteaded in 1859 by his great-grandfather, Charles Rogler, that will be “profoundly exciting and meaningful.” Lloyd Rogler, a founder of the field of cultural psychiatry, is currently Fordham University’s Albert Schweitzer Professor in the Humanities Emeritus.
Prairie Talk is a series of community discussions sponsored by Pioneer Bluffs Foundation, which was formed in December 2006 with the purchase of the 1908 home of Henry and Maud Rogler and several distinctive barns.
