ESU Research and Creativity Forum celebrates 25 years

Thursday, March 26, 2009

The 25th edition of an annual event showcasing Emporia State University’s research efforts takes place April 8. ESU’s Research and Creativity Forum is sponsored by the Office of Graduate Studies and Research.

“This is the only venue across campus for people to see what our faculty and graduate students are doing in research and grant activities,” said Gary Bleeker, dean of graduate studies. “The forum gives us an opportunity to celebrate and honor the research that takes place here at Emporia State.”

Faculty and graduate students from across the campus will be displaying information and explaining their research projects during a poster session starting at 1:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union’s Colonial Ballroom. Cash prizes are awarded for the displays that best explain the activity or research project.

“The poster session gives researchers a chance to talk with a wide range of people, which we hope inspires others to do more research,” said Bleeker.

As part of the event, ESU honors a faculty member active in research, scholarly pursuits or creative endeavors with the President’s Award for Research and Creativity. This year’s winner is Khaled Alshare, associate professor of accounting and information systems.

Alshare will be the keynote speaker for the awards ceremony beginning at 3:15 p.m., also in the Colonial Ballroom. The award ceremony also honors graduate students who have received awards and ESU faculty who have received seed grants from the Faculty Research & Creativity Committee.
