Fifth-grader jumps over 46 minutes

Jump-rope competitions have been an end-of-winter tradition in Emporia schools for many years. Students test their endurance in district-wide contests every March in grades 3 through 5.
The winners of the 2009 competition have been announced Andy Battenfield, physical education teacher at Lowther South Intermediate School. Competitions were held the after school the first week in March.
The winners, listed numerically from first place through fifth, were:
5th grade boys — Alan Morales, 22 minutes and 55 seconds; Aaron Lane, 22:32; Aidan Armbruster, 21:55; Corey Chalupa, 11:40; and Seth Tilton, 10:10.
5th grade girls — Janet Miranda, 46:17; Alexis Simons, 41:15; Stephanie Guillen, 37:45; Breanne Cayton, 22:48; and Maize Kolterman, 18:45.
4th grade girls - Sureima Castillo, W.A. White, 31:25; Deanna Durler, W.A. White, 21:22; Cailin O’Mara, Walnut, 20:32; Adriana Morales, W.A. White, 19:00; and Lexie Longbine, Timmerman, 16:57.
4th grade boys — Kohl Prose, Logan Avenue, 28:23; Adam Guerich, W.A. White, 19:48; Diego Munoz, Logan Avenue, 17:38; Cole Moore, Village, 13:13; and Mohammad Alshare, Timmerman, 11:37.
3rd grade girls — Rosy Morales, Village, 18:07; Laiza Perez, Timmerman, 17:45; Jasmin Ambriz, Riverside, 13:01; Melissa Azua, Walnut, 9:54; and Zuleima Duran, Riverside, 8:04.
3rd grade boys — Neftali Hernandez, W.A. White, 14:00; Gabe Trujillo, Walnut, 8:24; Brent Hastert, Timmerman, 7:40; Kesston Gentz, Timmerman, 5:40; and Jay Wilson, Timmerman, 5:14.
