Bank rating error
Because of an error in the production department, the Bauer Financial rating for the Cottonwood Valley Bank was incorrect. The bank — with locations in Cedar Point, Cottonwood Falls, Strong City, and Florence — has a four-star rating. Bauer lists four stars as “excellent.” It carries a designation as “Recommended Bank & Thrift Report.”
Gift to society
The Marylouise D. Meder Trust has given $33,535.68 to the Lyon County Historical Society. Meder, professor emeritus of library science at Emporia State University, died in March 2008.
J. Greg Jordan, executive director of the historical society, said the bequest was welcome and useful.
“We are humbled by Marylouise’s generosity and are grateful for her support,” he said. “This gift will allow us to help visitors and schoolchildren make their own personal connection to the rich and varied history of Lyon County, Kansas.”
