Pancakes for shelter
Messiah Lutheran Church will serve pancakes and biscuits and gravy from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning in the fellowship hall, 1101 Neosho St. An offering will be taken with all proceeds going to the Emporia Rescue Mission. Donations will be matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Youth group fundraiser
The Sacred Heart Youth Group is having their annual Bierock and Garage Sale March 21 at the Parish Hall, 106 Exchange St. The garage sale begins at 8 a.m.; the bierock sale, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Homemade bierocks, described as “homemade bread with a meat filling lovingly prepared by parish youth,” are $3 each or 10 for $25. This year, the group is also collecting old cell phones as part of their fundraiser.
Corned beef in Melvern
The Melvern Community PRIDE will serve Corned Beef and Cabbage or Irish Stew and Dessert from 5 to 7 p.m. March 21 at the Melvern Community Center for the suggested donation of $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 10 years and younger. After the supper, the American Legion Auxiliary Ladies will be hosts for an evening of Bingo from 7 to 9 p.m.
After-grad donations wanted
The Emporia High School After-Grad Party will be held May 17 for EHS Seniors. Senior parents of the After-Grad Party committee request your help in supporting this safe, drug and alcohol-free party. They encourage the business community, senior parents and any community member to make a donation either in the form of cash or merchandise. This has become a tradition the seniors look forward to with great anticipation. Donations will be used to help pay the evening’s activities and to provide prizes for the students who attend.
Those who wish to make donations are to contact the committee by April 17. Cash donations may be sent to “EHS Class of 2009, c/o Christie Miller, 2017 W. 15th Ave., Emporia, KS 66801 (343-2625) or call Leslee Euler at 343-6364 and she will arrange to pick up any items from business, at your convenience.
First Congregational Church rummage sale
First Congregational Church will hold a rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 20 and from 7 to 11 a.m. March 21 at the church located at 12th Avenue and State Street.
Entrance for the public is on the west side of the church and the sale will be in the basement. Items will include furniture, collectibles, household items, clothing, children’s items and miscellaneous items.
Proceeds will go to the Special Projects Fund.
A meal, plus bierocks to go
Deep-fried fish, brisket, salads, vegetables, desserts and pies, and beverages will be on the menu for a fundraiser from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Olpe United Methodist Church, 120 W. Listerscheid St.
A free-will offering will be accepted for the cost of the meal, with proceeds designated for the church’s building fund.
A limited number of bierocks, frozen in packages of 12, will be available at a suggested donation of $15 per package. Bierocks may be reserved by calling (620) 475-3863.
