Casey Woods was hired this morning as executive director of Emporia Main Street.

The action came during a meeting of the group’s board of directors. Woods is general manager of Madelynn's. He will replace Kayla Oney, who left March 6 to become director for marketing and events for the Colombian Theatre in Wamego.

Woods will begin his new job no later than April 1, after he completes projects already underway at Madelynn's.

Woods, who has been on the Main Street board of directors for many years, has been closely involved in leadership roles with the organization.

"He's also been an integral part of the business enhancement committee and he also is a board member of the Kansas Downtown Development Association," said board president Deborah Huth.

The appointment came after a series of interviews and discussions.

Emporia Main Street's executive board first interviewed five applicants and narrowed the field to three that would be given final interviews by the complete board, Huth said this afternoon.

"We actually had three scheduled and one applicant pulled out the day before the final interview," Huth said.

She was pleased with the quality of the applicants.

"I thought we had a very good pool to choose from," Huth said. "We had local, we had statewide, we had national interest in this particular instance. It was difficult to narrow it down. It really was."
