Burkhead named player of the week

Emporia State first baseman Kenny Burkhead was named MIAA player of the week on Tuesday for the second time this season.
Burkhead became the first repeat winner and helped Emporia State to a 5-0 record last week. He hit .444 (8-of-18) with a home run, nine RBIs and five runs scored.
Emporia State moved to No. 5 in the Collegiate Baseball Magazine Division II Coaches Poll on Tuesday and the Hornets sit atop the MIAA at 9-1.
Burkhead is hitting .461 for the season and leads the Hornets with 34 RBIs. He had a hit in every game last week and had multi-hit games in three of the four games during a sweep of Fort Hays State last weekend. He also drew three walks against Hays and reached base in 11 out of 21 at-bats.
