Emporian pleads in porn case

Sentencing has been set

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Norman S. Kidd, 40, of Emporia has pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of distributing child pornography, according to Jim Cross, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office.

The investigation into Kidd’s activities began in July 2007 when an agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Innocent Images Unit in Maryland searched for child pornography on “Limewire,” Cross said. Limewire is a peer-to-peer file-sharing program.

“Rather than downloading or uploading files to a central computer, Limewire users store files on their own hard drives,” Cross said in a news release. “Limewire allows them to download files from other users’ har drives and to offer files for download by other users.”

The agent downloaded images of child pornography from Kidd’s computer in Emporia. The photos included pictures of girls 8 to 12 years old, who were naked and displaying their genitals.

On Jan. 31, 2008, agents executed a search warrant at Kidd’s home, where they seized computer equipment containing images of child pornography.

Kidd will be sentenced on June 19 and could face five to 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.

The case has been brought to court as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative by the U.S. Department of Justice to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.

This makes you wonder how many perverts are out there. They seem to nail someone in the Emporia area pretty regularly. Either we're child porn central or there's a huge number of sick people around. Those poor girls being made to pose like that! I wonder if they even understood what was going on? The younger ones may not have. SICK!

Let's hope the judge has no mercy and gives him the maximum 20 years. Scumbag is right, but this is only one. If they have a network for sharing porn, imagine how many others there must be. These slimy sob's just don't seem to think they'll get caught.

I was unaware of Project Safe Childhood. Sounds like an excellent initiative to me. I hope they find more scumbags by investigating his hard drive.

madpoet,
Sounds like you and I were thinking along the same lines. Yes, there does seem to be an unusually high number of perverts arrested in Emporia. This is worrisome. But like you say, there must be a large number of these animals around. The Mental Health Center doesn't even treat them anymore because it is believed that there is no cure. May as well just put them in prison for life since they're of no use to anyone and certainly a liability for the entire community. I looked up his address in the phone book and shuddered to see that it is not far from Lowther or Walnut Elem.

I think these perverts have a wire crossed in their brains. And nothing will fix that. What a waste of skin!

Bad part is with our systems "tough" laws, he will most likely due less than 5 years, get out on parole, and live right down the street from one of us. The new age legal system, ain't it great! I like old fashion style myself!

If you even knew how many cases of child sexual abuse are sitting at the county attorneys office unprosecuted you would be sick. The only cases you hear about are the ones that make it to court. There are at least 50 others that nothing is done about for every one that is prosecuted.

Sounds like it's time for some gutsy investigative reporting to ferret out those cases sitting in the CA's office. We need to "press" this.

Of course, then there's the parents that parade their little kids in beauty pageants, and the preteens that are allowed to dress and act like they're 20. And let's not forget all the advertising that has children pushing sexuality at us, and shows like Maury and Jerry glamorizing underage sex. With all the mixed signals there are being promoted is it any wonder there's such a problem with underage porn?

Considering the little girls clothes for sale at Walmart, I have to agree with mrobvious. A friend of mine said she had to hunt hard for a nice dress for her teenager that didn't reveal all her goods top and bottom. And those tiny girls dolled up with makeup make me want to throw up. For some reason our society has become all about sex. I want to scream every time a ED commercial comes on tv. I told my husband that he gets to explain that one to our little boy. Sex is used to sell everything from cars to chips. And a lot of tv shows have gotten really raunchy. These are network shows on prime time not cable shows. CBS's 2 1/2 Men comes to mind right off. I was watching Dr. Phil recently and the guest was a family with a teen who dressed like a whore. And the mom bought her the clothes! Then complained when she wore them! Get a clue. I'm so glad we have a boy!

madpoet:
You will be surprise at how complicated having a boy ends up being once these over-sexed girls start trying to turn his head--and succeeding. And you are right about those Bratz dolls and their knock-offs--they have been outlawed in this house. We have already had to exchange one that was a gift. And we wonder why our teens can't understand when we tell them their beauty isn't in their bodies and that real approval doesn't come through sex. We also wonder why there are so many perverts out there---when they went through puberty, they were exposed to all these twisted concepts of dress and demeanor. They don't get any sympathy from me, but I will freely admit that our push for an "unrepressed" society has created these monsters.
