Emporia city commission
The Emporia City Commission will meet for its regular action session at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the City Commission/Municipal Court Room, 518 Mechanic St. Items on the agenda include:
• Proclamation honoring Angela Anderson as Kansas Wildlife Federation Conservation Educator of the year.
• Award contract for GASB 45 Services.
• Approve resolution authorizing the mayor to sign the 2011 KLINK agreement.
• Approve an appointment to the Building Trades Board.
Lyon County Commission
The Lyon County Commission will meet for a study session at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Lyon County Courthouse, 430 Commercial St. Items on the agenda include:
• Lougene Marsh, executive director of the Flint Hills Community Health Center, will discuss state grants.
• Marc Goodman, Lyon County attorney, will discuss appropriating $1,000 from the Drug Forfeiture Fund to are high schools ($250 to each school) for alcohol and drug-free after-prom parties for Spring 2009 upon request being received by the Lyon County Attorney’s office; discuss appropriating money from Drug Forfeiture Fund to area high schools for alcohol and drug-free after-graduation for Spring 2009 upon request being received by the Lyon County Attorney’s office.
• Chip Woods, Lyon County engineer, will discuss the low bid of Allied Tire for two Michelin tires at $505 each and to Michelin tires at $455 each for a total $1,920 according to the bids; discuss his attending the APWA/KCHA Join Conference on May 14 and 15 and paying the $135 registration fee and related travel expenses; discuss purchasing a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer from state surplus for $1,700 from the Road and Bridge Fund.

I think that there is a state law that requires them to take bids from several bidders. Then they have to accept a certain type of bid. Ask Chip he would certainly let you know.

There is no law that forces you to accept the low bid if the second bid is close and is from a local business you can accept it.Coffey County did this for years our local people employ yours and my neighbors not to mention paying taxes here they deserve the award of the bid.Oh and by the way everytime someone wants a donation they are the peoples door they are knocking on.

This is what the majority of the voters want for some reason, "direct supervision of the federal government". They voted for change, well we're going to get it.
