Today

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at JavaCat-5, 610 Merchant St. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

Emporia Masonic Lodge 12 meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 424 Merchant St.

Tuesday

The Rotary Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Etude Club meets at 1:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church with Char Miller serving as hostess, assisted by Norma Karhoff.

The Research Club meets at 1:30 p.m. with Sandy Fleming. Elaine Edwards will present the program. Members are to bring canned goods and staples for the Emporia Rescue Mission.

The Review Club meets at 1:30 p.m. with Pat Howard, assisted by Donna Otis. Betty Remington will present the program.

The Trend Club meets at 1:30 p.m. with Chris Hosey. MaryAnna McClenny will present the program.

The Emporia Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association meets at 6:30 for dinner at the Pizza Hut, after which there will be a business meeting. The speaker will be Marjorie Werly, director of Public Relations, Public Affairs and Marketing at Emporia State University. She will give a presentation, “Business Etiquette.” Those interested in attending are to call Robin Beatty at 366-2594 for reservations.

The Flint Hills Optimist Club meets at noon at the ESU Memorial Union.

The Hi-Noon Kiwanis Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Sertoma Club meets at noon at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

Altrusa International of Emporia meets at 6 p.m. at the home of Dorine Harter, assisted by Rita Wurtz and Sally Hannah. Sara Shaw will talk about Camp Alexander.

Flint Hills Area Vietnam Veterans meets at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 5, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

The Emporia Gardeners of America Club meets at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 823 Merchant St. Dan Parcel of Kaw Valley Greenhouses in Manhattan will talk about plants available for planting this spring. Members will discuss plans for Arbor Day, the plant sale, loaning plants to the Senior Prom and a field trip to Shepherd Valley, John and Ramona Crisp’s farm near Americus.

Friday

P.E.O. Chapter DI meets at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Sue Wilson serving as hostess, assisted by Maxine Mitchell. Members are to bring a sack lunch to exchange.

P.E.O. Chapter GT meets at 1:15 p.m. with Sandy Lahr, assisted by Mary Wempe and Mary Sue Wade. Marged Amend will present the program, “Looking in the Mirror.” Sylvia Lowder will give the projects report.

Saturday

The Emporia Airport Action Group meets at approximately 9:30 a.m. every Saturday in the main terminal of the Emporia Municipal Airport for “hangar talk,” coffee and doughnuts. “You are free to move about” the airport. Information: 342-3598.
