“Friday Thoughts” is a light-hearted commentary.
TWO WEEKS AGO, the Emporia High School wrestling team triumphantly brought home the state title. This week Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association released their list of coaches and wrestlers of the year. A pat on the back goes to Emporia High assistant wrestling coach Ryan Karjala, who was named as the KWCA Assistant Coach of the Year.
Unfortunately, the KWCA has made an error. They gave the Coach of the Year Award to Ron Averill of Lansing and not to Emporia High head coach Greg Buckbee.
Doesn’t it seem logical that if Emporia wins the 5A title and Karjala wins the assistant coach award, that the KWCA give the head coach award to Emporia?
Clearly this is an injustice. If it’s any consolation, Emporia wrestling fans would say Greg Buckbee is our 2008-2009 Wrestling Coach of Year.

Absolutely. This IS an injustice. Buckbee is the best.
