St. Pat’s in Council Grove

A St. Patrick’s Day “Memories Show” and dinner will be featured at the Trail Days Bakery Cafe on the historic Maple Camp Grounds at 803 W. Main St. in Council Grove, beginning with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Terwilliger home. The dinner menu features “pot-o’-gold round steak and potatoes, Leprechaun creamy coleslaw with apples, dinner rolls, wearin’-of-the green chocolate cake and coffee or tea,” stated the news release.

After the meal, the entertainment will begin at 8 p.m. in the 1902 Field School featuring Roger Weaver of Cottonwood Falls, pianist; Kathy Lamberson, vocalist and flutist; and Lisa Bolieu portraying “an Irish mother entrancing her baby with lovely Irish lullabies” along with three “charming Irishmen” portrayed by Travis LeMay, Keaton Shirley and Tyler Johnson. Piano accompaniment will be provided by Karen Harmison of White City. Susan Misenheimer is stage manager and Ken McClintock is the master of ceremonies. Along with the songs and music, slides of Ireland will be shown, some provided by Helen Judd from travels she made with her late husband, Charlie Judd.

This event is a fundraiser for the Historic Preservation Corporation for the restoration and maintenance of the Terwilliger Home and the historic buildings at Maple Camp. The cost is $17 each person. To make reservations, call (620) 767-7986.

The Terwilliger Home is one of the four oldest homes remaining alongside the Santa Fe Trail in Kansas. It was built when Kansas became the 34th state. Built by Abraham and Mary Rawlinson in 1860-61, this stone home was the last house freighters passed going West when leaving Council Grove as last as 1863.
