• A study session is planned for the Lyon County Commission beginning at 8 a.m. in the commission meeting room of the county courthouse.
• The Emporia City Commission will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m. in Conference Room 1A and 1B, 522 Mechanic St. The commission’s study session will follow the meeting.
• Play opens in State basketball tournaments. Emporia High girls face Lansing at 4:45 p.m. at the Topeka Expocentre; Olpe boys take on Pittsburg-SM Colgan at 6:30 p.m. in Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan and the 6A tournament opens at Emporia’s White Auditorium at 3 p.m..

• Young Emporia Professionals, noon at the Trusler Business Center, 719 Commercial St.
• Olpe High School girls open State basketball tournament play at 3 p.m. against Elkhart in Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan.

• ESU women’s tennis vs. Fort Hays State, 2 p.m. at Emporia State University.
• ESU men’s tennis vs. Tabor, 4 p.m. at Emporia State University.
• ESU baseball vs. Fort Hays State, 5 p.m. at the Trusler Sports Complex.

• The Emporia Granada Theatre will offer its first concert on Friday, with performances by the Oakleaf Band and the Jared Daniels Band. Doors will open at 7 p.m. for the 8 p.m. concert opening. Tickets are $15 each.
