ESU softball team splits two

The Emporia State softball team split two games at Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday, beating Wisconsin-Parkside 8-0 in the first game and dropping the second to host Missouri-St. Louis by a 2-1 final.

The Hornets scored all eight of their first-game runs in the first two innings, led by Jennifer Dace’s three-run double in the second. Megan Dennis won her fifth game, striking out six batters in five innings and allowing one hit.

ESU had three errors in the Game-Two loss. The Hornets’ only run came on an Abby Hughes home run in the first inning. Jennifer Heery went six innings for Emporia State, striking out five and allowing just four hits.

The Hornets will open their home season this weekend at the ESU Spring Tournament, which begins Friday at the Trusler Sports Complex.
