Washburn beats ESU in MIAA championship

Final

Emporia State could not pull off the MIAA championship sweep. Washburn beat ESU 78-69 on Sunday in the MIAA tournament championship game.

Cassondra Boston led the Lady Hornets with 25 points. Alli Volkens scored 15 points off the bench.

Janice Bright scored 25 and had 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Blues, who received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament with the win.

Half

Washburn started the game on a 10-0 run and leads Emporia State 43-32 at half of the MIAA tournament championship.

Cassondra Boston scored 11 of Emporia State’s first 13 points and leads the Lady Hornets with 14 points.

Washburn’s Janice Bright made a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer and leads the Lady Blues with 13 points.

Emporia State has eight turnovers, compared to only four for Washburn, and Washburn is also out-rebounding ESU 17-13.
