Former Emporian Kasia Rutledge is a new staff attorney for the public defenders office in Portland, Ore.

Rutledge earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and is a 2007 graduate of Lewis and Clark Law School. She was admitted to the Oregon State Bar in July 2008. From March 2007 through December 2007, she worked as a certified law student at the defenders office.
Deputy is new grad
A member of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department is among 49 recent graduates of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in Yoder, near Hutchinson.
Bradley Douglas of Americus, a Lyon County sheriff’s deputy, was part of the center’s 200th basic-training class, which began in mid-October and graduated Feb. 13 at the 4-H Encampment Building at the Kansas State Fairgrounds.
The center, a unit of University of Kansas Continuing Education, is the state’s central law-enforcement training program. Graduates receive certificates of course completion and Kansas law-enforcement certification from the state’s law-enforcement licensing authority, the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training.
The center is financed through court docket fees from municipal and state courts, not from Kansas general-revenue funds.
