Hartford bridge closing
Special to The Gazette
Saturday, March 7, 2009
Weather permitting, on Wednesday, K-130 will close in Lyon County for concrete placement of the bridge deck for the new Neosho River Bridge. K-130 will close after the morning school bus run on Wednesday, and will remain closed through March 23.
A marked detour will be provided for the K-130 bridge closure. Traffic will detour south out of Hartford on what is commonly referred to as the Olpe/Hartford Road; then west on Olpe/Hartford Road to K-99 in Olpe; then north on K-99 to I-35; east on I-35, to exit 141; then south on K-130. The detour route is approximately 47 miles, so drivers should plan accordingly during the bridge closure. There will be a second full closure on the bridge sometime in spring 2009.
Throughout construction on the new bridge, K-130 traffic will be restricted to one 12-foot lane through the project work zone. Traffic will be directed through the work zone by traffic signals. Drivers should expect minor delays and are advised to use alternate routes, if possible.
Construction on this bridge replacement project began in February 2007. Work on the bridge has been suspended several times due to weather related items, including continued high water levels on the Neosho River. The Neosho River serves as a holding basin for back up water from the John Redmond Reservoir.
A M Cohron & Son, Inc. is the primary contractor for this bridge replacement project with a total contract cost of $4.4 million. The scheduled completion date for the entire project is now early summer 2009.
