Events in Emporia this weekend:
SATURDAY
• Emporia Lions Biscuit and Gravy Breakfast, 7:30 a.m. at the Emporia Senior Center, 603 E. 12th Ave. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2.50 for children, available from a Lions Club member or at the door. Breakfast will be served until 11:30 a.m.
• Emporia State University baseball versus Nebraska - Omaha. 1 p.m. at the Trusler Sports Complex.
• St. Patrick’s Day concert, featuring soprano Regina Murphy and pianist Sue Seeman, 2 p.m. at the Lyon County Historical Museum, 118 E. Sixth Ave. The concert will include Irish ballads and historical anecdotes about the Irish in Kansas.
• Don’t forget to set the clocks ahead one hour for Daylight Saving Time.
SUNDAY
• “Spring Forward for Amphibians,” 1 to 3 p.m. at the David Traylor Zoo, 75 Soden’s Road. Children can participate in amphibian-related crafts and activities and the zoo’s amphibians will be on display. The event is part of a program encouraging people to get involved in protecting local amphibians and their habitats.
• Farmers Market annual meeting at the west campus of the Emporia Presbyterian Church, 1702 W. 15th Ave. There will be a potluck dinner starting at 4 p.m.; the meeting will start at 4:30. New developments for the 2009 season will be discussed, along with participation in the federal nutrition program. People attending the dinner are asked to bring a dish to share and table service.
