Teachers’ fast-food work benefits students, schools

Friday, March 6, 2009

The Lowther North and South Intermediate Schools will share in a financial windfall brought in for them by about 30 teachers who took part in “McTeacher Night” Tuesday at the McDonald’s restaurant on Industrial Road.

“The schools made $1,000 in four hours,” said Keith Dunavin, supervisor at the restaurant.

Approximately 30 teachers worked at the counter and drivethrough windows during the evening, Dunavin estimated. In return for their effort, McDonald’s donated 25 percent of the sales to the schools for that night.

Lowther South Principal Jessica Griffin said Thursday afternoon that technology improvements, like digital cameras and a projector, and reading-level books to build literacy both are under consideration for spending South’s $500 share. The options will be discussed this week and decided by the building committee.
