BETHANY BOWMAN, who advanced to the state Knights of Columbus free throw-shooting contest after winning the regional competition in Chanute. She made 20 of 25 free throws.
- Paula Sauder, who received the Service to Mankind Award from the Emporia Sertoma Club. Sauder is the facilitator of the Alzheimer Support Group.
- The Emporia High School wrestling team, which won the Class 5A state championship. EHS finished with 159.50 points, 7.50 ahead of Lansing.
- Organizers and participants in the Polar Plunge. The event raised $21,777 for Emporia’s Special Olympics.
- Organizers and participants in the Emporia Fitness bone-marrow drive. Ninety-two people signed up to become potential bone-marrow donors.
- Kimi Krueger and Chelsey Mattox, who received their Level One Black Belts in Tae Kwon Do. The girls studied Tae Kwon Do for more than three years to achieve this level.
- Tony Wang, who opened the Ruyi Restaurant at 1113 Commercial St. Ruyi serves Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Italian and Vietnamese foods.
- EHS bowlers Jacob Loucks and Caitlin Martin, who qualified for the State tournament.
