State Sen. Jim Barnett says he is keeping his mind on current concerns and not talking about whether he has any plans to run for the U.S. Congressional seat held now by Rep. Jerry Moran.
"I am focused on trying to keep the state of Kansas solvent," Barnett said Friday morning in response to a rumored campaign posted on an online Web site. "I believe that people are sick of politics and sick of politicians and want people to do the job that they were elected to perform, and solve the problem."
The question of Barnett's plans was posted Friday morning on political Web site, kansasjackass.blogspot.com.
"Rumors exploded yesterday (re: people said them loud enough I could hear them) that Republican State Senator ... Jim Barnett might soon announce plans to run for Congress in the KS-01," the article said. "I can't confirm this at all -- I only have it on word of mouth, so it might not be true at all. But following Barnett's bid for Governor, it's clear he'd like to move up in the political world."
Barnett said he believes that "it's proper for me to complete the job" he was elected to do and would not comment on the rumor.
"That's my answer," Barnett said.
