Men accused in 2 attacks on women

Friday, March 6, 2009

Two Emporia men will have preliminary hearings this month on charges involving separate attacks against women here.

Roger Dean Arndt faces five counts, including aggravated burglary, criminal damage to property, two counts of theft of property valued less than $1,000, and one count of aggravated criminal sodomy, or in the alternative, one count of aggravated sexual battery.

In the complaint against Arndt, Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman accused him of entering the woman’s home with the intent to commit a felony, including aggravated sexual battery, aggravated criminal sodomy and/or theft.

Arndt’s preliminary hearing will be on March 25.

Paul S. Brosemer has been charged with five counts in connection with an incident alleged to have happened Feb. 14. He is accused of committing the act of criminal restraint on the alleged victim and additional charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, criminal threat with intent to terrorize or cause evacuation and one count of battery.

Brosemer, who is free on $10,000 oral recognizance bond, will have a preliminary hearing at 3 p.m. March 12.

Absurd!! Brosemer who committed assult and battery along with criminal threats and restraint is free on a recognizance bond! You've got to be kidding me. I wonder who he is related too down at the court house.

Yes this does seem absurd that he can be released in such a way. But remember, for now we still are a country where you are innocent until proven guilty. At the same time, if he had got caught with a little bit of weed, he would not have gotten out, our fine justice system at work.

hellfirebluefish: If innocent till proven guilty was the reason for the recognizance bond then everyone should be released just on their word that they will show up in court. What really gets me is that these were even acts of violence the guy was charged with.
