Children who will attend kindergarten next fall and their parents need to attend one of the orientations in April at Emporia’s elementary schools.
Kindergarten orientation will be held at 7 p.m. April 13, and 10 a.m. April 14, at Logan Avenue, Riverside, Timmerman, Village, Walnut and William Allen White schools. Interpreters will be available for parents who speak Spanish.
Children who will be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2009, are eligible to attend kindergarten in 2009-10. All Emporia schools offer full-day kindergarten, but parents have the option to enroll their children only for a half-day.
Parents and students will be able to meet staff members, receive information about the enrollment process, and learn about services available to students. They also will learn what they can do to prepare their children for school. The children will spend time in the classroom with the teachers.
Parents can pre-enroll during orientation to ensure they will receive enrollment packets in the mail July 1. Records needed to enroll are the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, and a record of a physical examination signed by the doctor. The school year will begin Aug. 13.
Schools encourage parents to call their neighborhood schools in advance to sign up for orientation. Addresses and telephone numbers are:
