V-day focuses on women’s issues

Emporia State University’s annual production of Eve Ensler’s “Vagina Monologues” runs Monday through March 12. The show, directed this year by ESU junior Erin Mullane, will be at 7 p.m. in the ballroom of ESU’s Memorial Union.
The “Vagina Monologues” is produced at ESU each year by People Organized for Women’s Equal Rights and the Ethnic and Gender Studies program, and features a number of monologues about women’s firsthand experiences.
Each year, a new monologue highlights a certain social issue. This year’s spotlight monologue is on issues facing women in the Congo.
At the conclusion of the last show on March 12, ESU professor Ellen Hansen will present a discussion on the struggles of womean of the Congo.
Admission to the presentation is $4 for non-students and $2 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at the Memorial Union between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday. All proceeds go to the V Day foundation and local women’s charities.
