Main Street interviews
Deborah Huth, president of Emporia Main Street, said Tuesday afternoon that the organization’s executive committee would conduct interviews this week with five candidates to replace Kayla Oney, who resigned recently as executive director.
Huth said most of the candidates chosen for interview are local.
The executive committee will make a recommendation to the full board of directors, which then will make a hiring decision.
There is no firm timeline for hiring, but Huth said she hopes a new director will be on the job by the end of this month, if not before.
Hopkins awards
The deadline is March 11 for nominations for the WOW and Star awards given annually to teachers and staff members in Emporia schools by the Hopkins Foundation.
Nancy Horst, director of communications for the school district, said in a news release that nominations so far are running behind last year, but most of the nominations come in right before deadline.
Nomination forms are available at all Emporia public schools and Mary Herbert Education Center, 1700 W. Seventh Ave., and on the district’s Web site at www.usd253.org. For further information, contact Kristy Turner at 341-2201 or kturner@usd253.org.
