ESU loses at Newman
Newman ended Emporia State’s nine-game winning streak with an 11-9 win on Tuesday.
The Hornets and Jets split their season series. ESU beat Newman 20-9 on Feb. 24.
The Jets trailed much of the game but used an eight-run sixth inning to seal the victory. ESU outhit the Jets 15-9 on the night and had six extra-base hits.
Conner Crumbliss was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three doubles and three runs scored in the game. Anthony Dreiling also doubled and added three RBIs for the Hornets. Kenny Burkhead finished 3-for-5 and added an RBI. Brett McBride (0-1) gave up five runs in one inning and took the loss for the Hornets.
Emporia State begins a four-game home series with Nebraska-Omaha at 3 p.m. Friday.
ESU tennis team sweeps Kansas
Wesleyan
The Emporia State men’s and women’s tennis teams opened the spring season with a pair of wins on Tuesday. The ESU women swept Kansas Wesleyan 9-0 at the EHS Courts, while the Hornet men defeated the Coyote men 8-1 at the Milton Courts.
ESU is back in action on Friday against Newman in a neutral site match in Topeka.
