Amy Lee scored 19 points to lead the Ladycats, and Sarah Boline added nine points.
“I think that we played well in spurts tonight,” Heights coach Tim Riemann said. “West Franklin did a good job of taking us out of our game. We played well enough to win and handled some adversity tonight, so I am proud of the girls for that.”
Northern Heights will face Jayhawk Linn in the second round on Thursday at Osage City.
“I think that we can play much better basketball,” Riemann said. “We played relatively well defensively; however, we did send them to the free throw line more than I would like. We will take this win and hopefully it will give us some momentum going into Thursday night.”
