Wedding chat

Planning a wedding this spring? Tune in at www.emporiagazette.com at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday for an online chat with Casey Woods of Madelynn’s. Submit questions in advance or during the chat.

Applicants needed

The Emporia Area Habitat for Humanity is looking for applicants for home ownership. Habitat works with families to build simple, decent and affordable homes.

For information or to request an application, go to www.emporiahabitat.org or call 343-4116.

Quail Unlimited banquet

The Emporia Quail Unlimited Banquet will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Anderson Building at the Lyon County Fairgrounds. There will be a steak dinner. Advance tickets are $45, which includes the $30 Quail Unlimited membership and dinner. Spouse and children tickets and associate memberships are $20. Annual membership for people unable to attend the banquet is $30. Tickets are available from any Quail Unlimited member or by calling Thayne Cozart at (620) 279-4345.

Historic district

A public meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Little Theater on the second floor of W.L. White Civic Auditorium to discuss the possibility of creating a downtown historic district for Emporia. The meeting is for downtown property owners and all interested people.

Organizers of the meeting say the creation of a historic district makes it easier to qualify buildings for preservation-related funding and would make buildings eligible for a larger property tax rebate under the Neighborhood Revitalization Program.

The proposed district would extend from the railroad tracks to 12th Avenue along Commercial Street and vary from one to four blocks wide.
