Historic district
A public meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Little Theater on the second floor of W.L. White Civic Auditorium to discuss the possibility of creating a downtown historic district for Emporia. The meeting is for downtown property owners and all interested people.
Organizers of the meeting say the creation of a historic district makes it easier to qualify buildings for preservation-related funding and would make buildings eligible for a larger property tax rebate under the Neighborhood Revitalization Program.
The proposed district would extend from the railroad tracks to 12th Avenue along Commercial Street and vary from one to four blocks wide.
