Spartans open Substate at Newton

The Emporia boys basketball team is the sixth seed in their substate and will open on Thursday at Newton at 7 p.m. Newton is 14-6 this season. The Spartans finished 11-9, the same record as last year’s team that made the State tournament.

ESU baseball team plays Northwest Missouri today

The Emporia State baseball team had its series with Northwest Missouri postponed this weekend because of inclement weather. The Hornets will play a doubleheader against the Bearcats today at 1 p.m.

Hartford sponsoring Bowyer

The Hartford insurance company will sponsor Clint Bowyer’s car for three Sprint Cup Series races this year.
