ADMIRE — Residents of Admire now have a computer lab they can visit when they need to use the Internet. The lab is a project of Admire Community Pride, a community-improvement organization.
Ann Birney, co-president of Admire Community Pride, said that the computer lab was dedicated Wednesday afternoon.
“It went really well,” Birney said. “We had a good turnout. The kids just flocked to the computers. It was very gratifying.”
Birney said Admire Community Pride is dedicated to the community.
“Even before we began, we brainstormed what we could do for the community...” Birney said.
Birney said ideas were thrown out and one that came up was a computer lab. Birney said the computer lab is located in the Last Chance Cafe in Admire. The cafe is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays. There are three computers and two printers.
S&A Telephone company donated the Internet access for the computer lab, Birney said.
“Actually it required very little money,” Birney said.
Birney said one computer was donated to the lab and the other two were purchased through Government Surplus in Topeka. Admire Community Pride had some money left over from its fall festival as well.
“It was much easier than we had expected,” Birney said.

Congrats to Admire. What an awesome thing for a small community to provide for its citizens. They should be very proud of their achievements. Job well done!
