Ten people will win free barbecue grills in the annual “BBQ Grillaway” contest that will begin on July 7. And the charcoal grills should make Gazette readers happy because an online poll showed that 54 percent preferred charcoal. Only 37 percent preferred propane and another 8 percent didn't care.
The Emporia Gazette and KISS 103.1 radio station are co-sponsors of the contest, along with the advertisers whose businesses appear on the contest entry pages three times a week through Aug. 5.
Contestants will need to look carefully at all of the sponsor advertisements to find the letters “BBQ,” which will be placed randomly throughout. To enter the contest:
• List the names of all of the businesses containing the letters “BBQ” on a separate sheet of paper.
• Include the day the contest ran in The Gazette, along with your name, address, and daytime phone number.
• Place entry in an envelope, with the date the contest ran in The Gazette written on the outside of the envelope.
• Submit entries at The Gazette office, 517 Merchant St.
• Only one entry will be allowed per person per contest day.
Two winners will be chosen on Fridays by random drawings from correct entries received each week. Entrants must be available at the phone number on the entry form in order to claim the prize.
No purchase is necessary and copies of the contest rules are available at The Emporia Gazette office.
Other rules include:
• Entrants must be 18 years of age or older.
• To be able to claim prize, each winner must consent to publication of his or her photo.
• Some restrictions may apply.
• The Gazette retains the right to change the terms of the contest without notice.
• Employees of The Gazette, sponsoring businesses, and family members are not eligible to enter the contests.
