There will be at Taxpayer TEA (Taxed Enough Already) party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 4 in Burlington at the southwest corner on N. 4th Street (Highway 75) and Juniatta Street (314 N. 4th St.)
The even, organized by a number of Coffey County residents, will be an informal meet and greet picnic with hot dogs, chips and lemonade provided. The public is invited to attend and bring lawn chairs, tea bags and “tasteful” signs, stated the news release. No formal speeches are planned, rather, the public will be invited to share ideas and concerns about government spending, taxes and excessive regulation. This will be a “family-friendly, non-partisan event, so offensive language and personal attacks will not be welcome.” Each family that attends will be offered a complimentary pocket-sized copy of the U.S. Constitution, along with a guide for contacting elected officials and the media to express opinions.
The organizers of this event meet at 6 p.m. every third Wednesday in the basement of the County Courthouse in Burlington. The public is welcome to attend. The group’s purpose is to identify problems in government and work to address those problems in a civil, non-partisan manner.
