Inductee’s thanks
Leslie J. Nicholas, 2009 National Teachers Hall of Fame Inductee
Tuesday, June 23, 2009
I WRITE to thank the entire Emporia Community for all the efforts on my behalf at the recent Teachers Hall of Fame induction, despite the fact that words cannot adequately express my gratitude. To spend several days with the other inductees was exhilarating and to be feted in Teacher Town was uplifting. I know that despite the many photographs and my animated descriptions, my colleagues and friends will never truly understand my adventure because it must be experienced to be understood. To spend a week in Teacher Town with passionate educators was a remarkable experience.
I want to thank the Hall of Fame director of recognition Jenny Harder and Emporia University President Michael Lane for all of their efforts. A special thank-you to our gracious hosts, Gary and Barbara Bleeker.
My visit to Emporia was brief, but I know absolutely that this community’s commitment to education is genuine. You should all be justly proud of a first-class event. My wife and I will be Emporia’s best ambassadors as we spread the word about this community that welcomes and treasures educators.
