Dunlap High School

Sixty-seven alumni and friends met June 6 for the biennial meeting of the Dunlap Rural High School Alumni Association at the Community Christian Church in Council Grove. Members of the church served a banquet meal before the business meeting. Tony Carl of Wilsey, accompanied by Ralph Mock, sang several country-western songs and also sang as part of the memorial service for those who have died during the past two years, led by Leland Viar.

The graduating classes of 1948, 1949, 1958 and 1959 were given special recognition, as were all those alumni present who graduated in the 1930s. The oldest graduate present was Robert Whitaker from the class of 1933; the youngest graduate present was Leland Viar, class of 1960. The first class to graduate was the class of 1916.

New officers elected were Dan Riggs, president; Gail Lee, vice president; and Janis Viar Beshoner, secretary-treasurer. The next meeting of the Alumni Association will be held June 4, 1011.

The gymnasium in Dunlap is being refurbished by the Dunlap Fire Department and was open for the alumni to tour and reminisce about school-days memories. Jan Huston and Ustaine Talley presented a video program at the gymnasium related to the history of Dunlap as an Exoduster community after the Civil War.
