Learn about radio
Monday, June 22, 2009
This is Amateur Radio Week and the amateur radio operators — “hams” — from Lyon and Greenwood County will demonstrate equipment and talk about the usefulness of ham radio in public emergencies at a field day Saturday, Saturday night and part of Sunday morning at the Olpe City Park. The event is open to the public.
The operators are members of the Emporia Amateur Radio Society — EARS — and will join other hams from around the United States in the weekend event.
Amateur radio operators can set up emergency communications quickly after natural disasters, using their radios to pass information and messages back and forth when public communications have been disrupted.
The amateurs at the Olpe City Park this weekend will have information on how to apply for an FCC license to operate a radio transmitter and join the nation’s more than 650,000 licensees.

Times would be nice. Saturday and Sunday morning is pretty vague.

(applauds seriously) good one! Now I'm going to have that tune in my head all day long.
Speaking of radio, has anyone heard of Pandora? It's part of the music genome project. It's all free and they will play any music you like on your computer, yes, any music at all. You just ask for the artist you like and they will play selections from that artist and others who play similar style music. If they play something you don't care for, just click on the thumbs down logo and they switch to something else. I have a selection of Stan Getz, Van Morrison, James Taylor, and contemporary Hawaiian artists on mine. You can have as many artists as you want. Kinda cool.
Just go to www.pandora.com and follow the instructions. Bossa Nova anyone?

Pandora has been around quite a long time actually. Not bad but they tend to be a bit limited in quantity of songs they have. You get a lot of replays.

Wow, really? I've been using them for a couple of years now and I hadn't noticed any replays. Maybe my array of styles don't allow for that.

Or maybe you listen to genre's with more available songs. Either way it's not bad.....and you can't beat the price.
I actually have about 5 or 6 different stations built so I can switch it up depending on what I feel like listening to.
