Killing shocks Young Man’s friends

Friday, June 19, 2009

Friends of Ricky Nurnberg, who was killed Wednesday evening, say he was a joy to be around and a true friend. Nurnberg was 26.

Around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday Emporia police received a call reporting an assault at Nurnberg’s residence, 505 Congress St., Apt. 1. Shortly after, they arrested Deanna L. Meece, 24, at another location, according to Lt. Ed Owens of the police department’s criminal investigations division. Meece is being held in the Lyon County Jail.

Amber Clayborn of Emporia said she had known Nurnberg for about 8 1/2 years. The two had dated previously.

“He was a happy-go-lucky type of person,” Clayborn said. “He liked to have a good time. Everybody liked him.”

Nurnberg had a lively personality and liked to do all kinds of things, Clayborn said in a phone conversation.

“He liked to play games and have a good time,” she said.
