People who want to board or disembark from a Greyhound bus at Emporia will need to go to Short Stop 66, 2000 Industrial Road.
The former bus stop at the Shell Food Mart, 2900 Eaglecrest Drive, has closed.
Jessie Jordan, area supervisor for Short Stop, said that the Short Stop 66 is not a full-service bus stop, but only a point where passengers can be dropped off or picked up.
“All we agreed to do was allow them to use our parking lot and our store for the bus drop-off, to make sure that if somebody came in, we could tell them they can get on the bus or get off the bus,” Jordan said.
“At the present time, there is no contract.”
Tickets cannot be purchased at Short Stop, nor can packages be dropped off or loaded.
Jordan said that tickets can be purchased online or by calling Greyhound’s toll-free number.
Greyhound’s corporate office could not be reached for comment.
The Shell Food Mart gas station and convenience store has closed. The Food Mart’s owners, Crescent Oil at Independence, Kan., have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and are in the process of reorganizing.
“It may be re-opened later,” said Jerry Davidson, Crescent’s vice president of fuel operations. “If it’s not, it will definitely be for rent, lease or sale.”
The bankruptcy court is considering the case as Crescent officials try to re-organize the company’s assets and realign the profitable portions of its operations.
Davidson said that a bank involved in the bankruptcy has objected to Crescent’s proposals, which has extended resolution of the bankruptcy.

What a shame that not even bus tickets can be purchased locally. Many people who use bus transportation don't necessarily own computers to buy tickets online. Besides, Greyhound has a lot of nerve to use Short Stop 66 without offering a contract yet still expecting that their busses will use the facilities, however briefly.

create...you are right on about many people who ride busses not likely having access to computers and the internet...but just such anomolies are everywhere nowdays.
My landline phone company the other day informed me that if I didn't arrange to receicve my statements via e-mail they were going to add a surcharge to my bill. So I made the arrangements while promising myself I would soon drop their service alltogether and go strictly cell phone. But I couldn't help but think about the people who are least likely to have access to e-mail are now the ones that are going to pay more for basic necessitty phone service. The poor person bends over and greases up again.

Yes, it's too bad there isn't some way to give all of the poor people free phone service and free internet service so they can purchase their bus tickets. While we're at it let's pay for their bus tickets too. It's just not fair that some people can afford those services while others cannot. I'm sick and tired of the hard working wealthy people in this country reaping all of the benefits of their hard work and not sharing more of it with poor and/or lazy people!
But wait, if we did that what would be the incentive for people to work hard and try to better themselves? Poor people don't have to be poor, they can choose to get an education and a chance at a higher paying job.

While I am not necessarily a "Have Not," I do have compassion for my fellow man who cannot always afford all the nice things that I can, computer service being only one.
No one is asking for free bus tickets, or free phone service, or free anything. Why the sour hyperbole?
My late parents found it difficult to afford a lot of life's amenities so they did without. They also found it difficult to accept money from me. I'll never forget them still using a dial phone when their doctor's office was expecting them to push a damn button for this or that. I bought them a push-button phone and they were embarrassed to receive it. These are the kinds of people who ride busses to get from one place to another. Good, decent people who do what they can with the income they have. It pisses me off that you have put them down for being poor!

The problem with making broad generalizations about people you only know from what they say on a forum is the simple mathmatics are against you. You have many many times more opportunity to be wrong than to be right. So A thinking individual would most likely shy away from broad assertions based stricly on their own prejudices made about people whom they had no real knowledge.
And then when you might occasionally get lucky and guess right about something you have no way to prove it. All they have to do is tell you how wrong you are leaving you once again setting with egg on your face so to speak. When a person engages in such a lose-lose tactic over and over again it might cause others to wonder about that person's thinking ability.
The only other reason I can come up with for your continued use of this high-risk manuver would be if your ego had convinced you that others were marvelling at your wit and wisdom.
As to create being a stupid idiot.....I THINK NOT!!!!! In fact I agree with her more often than I disagree. The tickets, like anything else, can be purchased online. If someone indeed doesn't have a laptop, they can use a computer at a Kinko's or the public library for a small fee.

sundance.....I seriously doubt that Kinko's would be willing to serve as a e-mail address for people without computers to receive billing info from my phone company. And even if they were, I'm quite certain my phone company would not be.
But such billing practices are becoming very common among banks and business. Contrary to the opinion of a few, I'm not really a stupid idiot, and I do understand why businesses are rushing to adopt such practices. They allow the company to cut cost and operate more effeciently tthereby passing some of that savings back to their customers.
But believe it or not....not everyone "indeed doesn't have a laptop" as you so elequently put it. Some of those that don't are.... (according to mister enlightenment under-score)...... lazy and unwilling to get a good education thereby garnering themselves good jobs...thereby making themselfs deservedly poor and as such unworthy of anything. I was only pointing out that as usual they got nothing.....which should have made under-score very happy.
And create...I think I will go ahead and give you an honorary stupid idiot designations. I do so as a compliment to you because I feel that considering the source.....being called a stupid idiot by under_score.... is akin to a badge of intelligence and learning. Congratulations!

biscuitboy,
Per your request.
Isn't stupid idiot kind of redundant? I hope I never called anyone that but if I did I certainly do apologize.
As for gov't bailouts going to big business I couldn't agree with you more. It is totally absurd that anyone recieved a bailout of any sort. Except for the banks, which I think we were probably right to try to stabalize, all other companys we should have let fail. This would have created much more pain in the short term, which Bush would have taken the blame for as well, but in the long term it would have been much better for the country.
I assume since you are against these bailouts you must really dislike Obama's policies since Bush used half of the 800 billion at his request and then went on to hand out trillions more?
create: If your parents weren't looking for a handout I wouldn't necessarily say they were very good Democrats. There are only 2 kinds of Democrats. Those without money looking for a handout and those with money refusing to donate any of theirs but wanting to give everyone elses away.

Most of the really rich people I have known.....and I have known a few having at one time been married to one of their daughters.....were really quite generous with their money and sensitive to the problems of the disadvantaged. Does the name Warren Buffett mean anything to you? My experience has been that people with attitudes like I hear from you are rich wanna-be's anxious to grovel at the feet of their idols.
Does that mean that the rich give all their money to the undeserving....of course not. But it does mean they recognize that not all poor people are poor because they are lazy and ignorant. You see the biggest difference between the rich and the rest of us....is the rich don't really have to care what the rest of us think about them. So they don't feel the need to boast and brag and blowhard just to gain approval from others. Sound familier?
I did not mean to imply that I was married to Warren Buffett's daughter.....no way!

Shell Food Mart - you reap what you sow!
On Sept. 11, 2001, I was unfortunately out of gas and needed a fill. I went to the Shell on Eaglecrest, only to find that they had quadrupled (or more) their asking price for gas - a.k.a. price gouging. Needing fuel, I paid it. A few days later, I returned and politely asked to speak to the manager. The manager refused to come out and hid in the office in the back. From that day on, I never spent another nickle at that Shell. Maybe some of the poorly-run businesses in Emporia are learning a lesson about customer service and reasonable pricing during these hard economic times?

I awoke in the middle of the night with a terrible realization.....
Those darn Beverly Hillbillys....here they were a bunch of lazy, ignorant, shiftless, worthless, no doubt idiot, poor people obviously expecting everything to be given them for nothing. Then that damn Jed is out "shooting at some food"......probably poaching on the private hunting (for sport) preserve of a rich gentleman......."when up through the ground came the bubbling crude".
The reality is that it was a slant hole shot off the rich man's private hunting preserve......which the rich man had been using for years to secretly extract oil off of adjacent public land without having to pay taxes. Jed's quick filinging of a sqatters deed however turned the tables propelling Jed and his little band of ingrates to unbelievable riches......while leaving the rich man...whose name was elder_score......and his family in undeserved poverty. Rumor has it the score family has nursed an unmitigated hatred for all poor people except themselfs ever since.
And rightfully so.....Jed and his idiot ingrates then moved to "California...the place you ought to be" where he continued to share his wealth with other poor, lazy, ignorant, shiftless, worthless, uneducated idiots like himself.....while at the same time making the lifes of the poor rich people in Beverly Hills a living hell on earth.
Why I'm surprised this show ever got on TV....it was nothing but socialist...commie....pinko.....propaganda. Fit for showing only in the Obama White House. LOLOLOLOL
