Off to Canada
Wednesday, June 17, 2009
Don Roberts has his passport ready to travel to Canada; soon, he will apply for residency status there.
Roberts — almost 69 years old and a lifelong Emporian — and his wife will stow much of their furniture and belongings into a rental truck Thursday evening and will head for British Columbia Friday morning.
“She’s working Thursday ’til 5,” Roberts said. “That’s her last day.”
His wife, Patricia Neufeld, is chair of special education and school counseling at Emporia State University. She is wrapping up activities at the annual Future Teachers Academy, held this week at ESU.
In Canada, she will become academic director of Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia, a relatively new four-year university that was a college until it began to expand and develop new programs.

Dr. Neufeld is an AMAZING woman, I spent some time with her on a study abroad trip to Europe and the information I learned from her was endless. She will truly be missed around these parts, Good luck as you move on to bigger and better things!
