A mill levy increase for the Emporia Recreation Commission has been postponed until next year.
Recreation director Tom McEvoy told commissioners at a meeting late Monday afternoon that getting additional funds to run programs and maintain existing facilities will be discussed later with city commissioners.
Rec commissioners voted unanimously to publish the budget for the 2010 fiscal year and also unanimously approved a contract with the City of Emporia for operation of the Jones Aquatic Center.
The budget shows planned expenditures of $2,012,135 for general operations and $204,000 for the employee benefit fund for a total of $2,216,135.
The ERC will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the aquatic center — including routine maintenance, upkeep, security, staff and utility charges — and will notify the City of Emporia when major repairs are needed.
