Kellie Farr’s grandfather was on her mind when she went to Wichita for this year’s State track and field meet.
The Hartford junior knew about her grandpa’s high-jumping prowess for a long time. Forty-five years ago, Frank Banister won the State Indoor title in the high jump and set a meet record for the brand-new Class BB classification. Making her first trip to State this year, Farr wanted to bring another championship to the family and make her grandpa proud.
“I thought about him,” Farr said. “I wanted to win it really bad for him, because I knew that me and him both winning it would be something really special, since he won his his junior year. And I just thought it’d be really special to win it my junior year.”
