CHASE COUNTY

Bob and Bill, Belgian horses, walked the prairie in Chase County pulling a load of passengers in a covered wagon kicking up dust and prairie grass as they went along. But this wasn’t a scene from Chase County past — it was one of the many activities held at the Symphony in the Flint Hills on Saturday.

The Symphony in the Flint Hills was held in western Chase County on Doyle Creek Land and Cattle Ranch, east of Florence and south of Cedar Point. During the day there were many activities held on the private ranch. All 5,000 general admission tickets sold out to the event, which saw the best weather yet with temperatures only in the lower 80s at the highest. The day was breezy, causing the prairie grass to sway in the wind and the colorful streamers that marked the site to whip in the breeze. The Kansas Cigy Symphony played Saturday evening.

Matt Klass of Tecumseh was driving the team of horses that included Bob and Bill on Saturday.

“I have 4,000 pounds of meat in front of me that I have a hold of,” Klass said as he coaxed the horses into motion. “They pretty much do what you want them to do. I let them loose and let them go.”

Gwen, you're killing this online edition with these abridged versions of articles.

I gotta agree. I subscribe to the print edition. But would mutch rather read the online editions because the comments posted after the stories are SOMETIMES very interesting.

Mnay newspapers are shifting focus to electronic delivery. Perhaps it is time the Gazette should do the same. New times take new ways of thinking.
