Peter Pan Park was smoking Saturday morning with the first ever Smokestock: Peace, Love & BBQ.
Barbecue enthusiasts gathered on a cool Saturday morning to learn about barbecue, listen to music and enjoy a picture-perfect morning at Peter Pan Park.
Smokestock was presented by Water True Value Hardware of Emporia. Water is a licensed dealer for The Good-One Grill, which is manufactured in Burns and sold nationally. Mark Shook, manager of Waters True Value said this is the first time they have held the event. The event is in conjunction with Ace of Hearts BBQ Specialties. Shook said they were talking about the event last fall about getting Good-One grill owners together to cook. Saturday’s course was about techniques and what to do and what not to do with smoking. Shook said Waters puts on cooking classes three to four times a year.
A handful of people showed up for the barbecue event, which included demonstrations, places to watch and listen and barbecue tasting. And not to mention the aroma of fresh cooked smoked barbecue lingered in the air at the park, making mouths water and smiles appear on the faces of eager tasters both children and adults alike.
