Emporia Main Street will hold its annual meeting Tuesday, giving out several awards and talking about the present and future state of the organization.
Social hour will start at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Altitude, above Cole’s at 707 Commercial St.
Main Street Director Casey Woods said awards will be given out for business of the year, volunteer of the year and advocate of the year and departing board members will be recognized.
Because June is Business Appreciation Month, Main Street will also hand out the Kansas Department of Commerce’s merit awards. There are four merit award recipients in Emporia.
Main Street members will also elect officers and new board members.
Talks will be given on the state of Emporia Main Street and the future for the next year, which runs from July 1 through June 30. Main Street runs on its fiscal year.
“There will be lots of interesting announcements,” Woods said. “It’s a good opportunity to find out what Main Street is all about and learn how to get involved in committees.”
Woods said the event is to showcase the organization and say thank-you to members and volunteers.
“We’re a extremely small organization so we’re hyper-dependent on volunteers,” Woods said.
