Charity organizations all over the country are hurting because of the economy, but the United Way of the Flint Hills isn’t feeling too much of a sting — yet.
“We really haven’t seen any significant impact at this time,” said director Duane Dreiling. “We’re probably down a little bit in contributions, but nothing huge.”
Last year the organization missed its goal of $600,000, raising $553,286 in contributions from the community. This year, Dreiling said there is talk among the United Way agencies about how to make the upcoming fall campaign a success.
“Obviously we’re concerned about the campaign coming up in the fall,” he said. “We’re looking at ways to do things differently.”
Dreiling has been in meetings to talk about how to approach the campaign from different angles, but so far he is hopeful this year will prove successful.
“We want to be sure that we’re getting the word out about the good things these United Way agencies do for the community,” he said.
