• Meghan Blythe, Morgan Michels, Mark Windle, Rachel Mayhill and John Roberts, who won state awards for their 4-H projects.
• Altrusa International, which donated $1,000 to the Emporia Literacy Program.
• The Emporia State University Summer Theatre, which is celebrating its 55th season. The season opened this week with a production of the romantic comedy “Beau Jest.”
• C&J Woodworks, CoreFirst Bank and Trust, Emporia Farmers Market and High Gear Cyclery, all of which received recognition from the Kansas Department of Commerce.
• Lisa Keith, who was named director of the David Traylor Zoo of Emporia. Keith had been interim director since 2008.
• Larry Schmitz, who won a restored 1967 Camaro in the Dan Tebbetts fundraiser.
• Conner Crumbliss, the ESU baseball player who was drafted to play professional baseball for the Oakland A’s.
• Bill Barnes, who has been named director of the Master of Business Administration program in ESU’s School of Business.
• Julie Stowe, the new chief of nursing at Newman Regional Health, who has been busy changing the model of nursing at Lyon County’s community hospital.
• The batting demons of the Emporia Blues, who quickly disposed of Manhattan Pro Copy on Wednesday, recording two run-rule wins, 12-0 and 12-2.
