Eight special boxes of food will be offered, in addition to the standard boxes, at the Angel Food Ministries ordering days at 4 participating church sites in Lyon County.
Boxes must be paid for in advance and must be picked up on the date and time listed on individual receipts. Food not picked up at the appropriate time will be donated to charities. Consumers must bring large empty boxes to collect the food.
The basic box, at a cost of $30, will include: 1.5 lb. ribeye steaks, 2 lb. lasagna dinner entree, 2 lb. beef and bean burritos, 2 lb. boneless-skinless chicken breast chunks, 28 oz. jumbo beef pattie entree with gravy, 1 lb. lean ground beef, 1 lb. all-meat hot dog, 10-oz. individually wrapped sliced cheese, 20-oz. shoestring fries, 1 lb. broccoli cuts, 12-oz. peanut butter, 1 lb. rice, 1 lb. pinto beans, 1 lb. tub no-trans-fat margarine, 2 lb. dried 2 percent milk, one dozen eggs, dessert.
Senior and convenient meals include 10 seasoned, nutritionally balanced, fully cooked meals to heat and serve. Each comes with an entree, a starch and two vegetables or fruit. Entrees will be: meatloaf with zesty tomato sauce, beef stroganoff with sour cream, sliced roast beef and gravy, breaded veal patty, char-broiled beef meatballs, savory seasoned baked chicken leg quarter, Chinese style chicken chop suey, grilled chicken strips with sweet & sour sauce, barbecue pork rib patty, Asian-style pork fried rice, 10 two-packs of individually wrapped cookies. Cost: $28.
Allergen-free boxes are processed to eliminate eight allergens: peanuts, soybeans, milk, eggs, fish, crustacea, tree nuts and gluten. Boxes contain: 1 lb. breaded chicken tenders, 1 lb. breaded chicken breast chunks, 1 lb. breaded chicken nuggets, 1 lb. breaded chicken patties, 1 lb. breaded steak fingers. Cost: $25.
Other boxes and contents are:
Seafood: 2 lb. Alaskan salmon fillets, 2 lb. breaded flounder fillets, 2 lb. large, deveined shrimp. Cost: $35.
With the purchase of a basic box, consumers also may purchase any of 5 bonus boxes.
Box 1: 7 lb. assorted meat grill box containing 1.5 lb. New York strip steaks, 2 lb. thick-cut Boston Butt chops, 2 lb. baby back ribs, 1.5 lb. bratwurst with cheese, $23.
Box 2: 4.5 lb. meat and chicken combo with 1.5 lb. bone-in ribeye steaks, 1.5 lb. sirloin strip steaks, 1.5 lb. bacon-wrapped chicken breast, $22.
Box 3: 11 lb. chicken combo box with 4.5 lb. whole bird, 3 lb. split chicken breast, 2 lb. breaded tenders, 1.5 lb. boneless-skinless chicken breast, $22.
Box 4: Fruits and vegetable box with a seedless watermelon, a larrge vine-ripened cantaloupe, 2 tree-ripened mangoes, 3 lb. Valencia oranges, 1 lb. kiwi fruit, 4 ears yellow corn, 2 zucchini squash, 2 yellow squash, 2 lb. Vidalia onions, 1 head of cabbage, 1 head of lettuce, 3 lb. Idaho baking potatoes, one bottle of zesty Italian salad dressing and marinade, and a receipt sheet, $22.
Box 5: “Latin Flavors” fruit and vegetable box with 1 cantaloupe, 4 avocados, 2 lb. key limes, 1 pineapple, 2 plantains, 2 mangos, one head of lettuce, 2 fresh yucca roots, 1 fresh jicama, 1 package 30-count corn tortillas, 2 lb. white onions, 1 lb. carrots, 5 cloves garlic, and “Latin Flavors” receipt sheet, $22.
Orders will be taken at the following times:
Emporia Presbyterian: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Americus United Presbyterian: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Grace United Methodist Church: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday.
The Church of the Nazarene schedule was not available.
