Smokestock ready to roll

Smokestock is on track for Saturday at Peter Pan Park.
“We are good to go. There are about a dozen cooks coming in with their Good-One grills, and anyone who wants to compete is welcome to register up until 9 a.m. Saturday,” said Mark Shook.
Shook runs Water’s True Value Hardware, which, along with the help of The Good-One Grill and Ace of Hearts BBQ Specialties, is sponsoring this informal, informational community cookout.
People who are competing have three categories: best barbecue, best grilled thing other than meat, and best variation of “The Bacon Explosion.” Registration is $10 and includes an invitation to an “Eat and Greet” at Water’s on Friday evening.
People who want to just have fun and sample all the different grilled foods will be admitted after 9 a.m. Tasters will vote on their favorite barbecue, and the winning cooks will receive prizes.
Chris Marks, eight-time Grand Champion of the American Royal and general manager of Ace of Hearts BBQ Specialties, will teach a class on smoking pork butt and brisket starting at 10 a.m. The $25 fee for the class includes entrance to Smokestock, a lunch of brisket and pork and all the educational materials provided by Marks.
